The National Fund for Vietnamese Children has provided an aid package worth VND500 million (around US$28,000) to nine central and Central Highland provinces hit by storm Ketsana.
The beneficiaries include Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Quang Tri, Quang Binh and Binh Dinh.

Nguyen Thi Binh - former State Vice President, Chairwoman of the Sponsoring Council of the fund, is on a visit to Quang Nam province and Da Nang city to hand over part of the aid to children in the two localities.

On the occasion, the Phuong Dong Garment Company sent through the fund 6,000 shirts worth nearly 54 million VND to Quang Nam province, Da Nang city and Quang Ngai province.

On October 20, the fund coordinated with the Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk) to give boxes of milk to two primary schools in Quang Nam province. The donation will be sufficient for 1,000 children to drink twice a day within the next two months.

This forms part of activities under the programme providing six million cups of milk for poor Vietnamese children initiated by the fund, Vinamilk and the Ministry of Education and Training.

The programme has set a target to give 6 million cups of milk worth VND25 billion to 48,000 disadvantaged pupils.
