Robins Department Store helps poor ethnic minorities in Vietnam

Robins Department Store, a member of Central Group, has visited and presented gifts to villagers of K’Long Village in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.

This is a part of the company’s corporate social responsibility program called “Designs from the village” commenced by Robins Department Store and designer Adrian Anh Tuan in September 2015.

“Designs from the village” is inspired by the idea to use Vietnam’s cultural heritage to sustainably support for local communities. The project saw Robins and Vietnamese fashion designer Adrian Anh Tuan, visiting remote ethnic villages in Lam Dong to draw inspiration for a new collection.

The limited edition 10-piece collection is 10 T-shirts for both men and women, uniquely designed with combination of both traditional of “tho cam” patterns. This signature charity collection was sold exclusively at the two Robins Department Stores in Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi.

Robins has used all profits from the sales to build standard toilets for villagers and donated numerous other daily living items.

“Deep in the DNA of Central Group is a commitment to improving and enriching the lives and livelihoods of the communities in which we operate.  Designs From The Village was so much more than a t-shirt collection - it was an expression of the preserving of traditional “tho cam”, the generation of more income for local community as we were sourcing the “tho cam” materials to produce T-shirt, the support to the local communities in remote areas with basic hygiene facilities, and after all it is the commitment we make to the peoples of Vietnam.

It showcased the beauty of local “tho cam” of the K’Long people to the modern fashion world, and the commitment of Robins and Central Group to Vietnam,” said Nguyen Thi Hong, head of public relations of Central Group Vietnam.

“We highly appreciate the initiative of Robins Department Store and Central Group Vietnam. This project was a golden opportunity for local hand-made products to be widely promoted to citizens in the major cities.

Showcasing our traditional brocade to young and fashionable markets helps to create sustainable jobs and sustainable futures for our villagers and maintain the traditional values of Vietnam,” said a representative of villagers of K’Long village.
