At a working session with Quang Tri provincial leaders on September 3, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked them to create favourable conditions and encourage all economic sectors, especially small-and medium-sized enterprises in rural areas, to promote production and expand investment to generate local jobs and improve people’s standard of living.
PM Dung praised the province’s socio-economic achievements over the past five years and urged the province to continue implementing measures to fulfill the set targets and focus on containing inflation, stablising the macro economy, ensuring social welfare, and removing obstacles for production, particularly for agriculture, and small-and medium-sized enterprises.
Economic growth in the province over the past eight months is estimated to reach 8 percent and is expected to hit more than 10 percent for the year. Quang Tri ranked 16 in the competitive edge index last year. Significant progress has been made in social fields, such as poverty reduction, healthcare, and education.
He also asked the province to create favourable conditions for household economy, and pay more attention to building new rural areas and controlling market prices to prevent speculation and price hikes, particularly for essential commodities.
He noted that provincial leaders should work with relevant central ministries and departments to develop plans for 2012, focusing on promoting the province's potential, especially planting rubber trees and exploiting limestone.
He asked the provincial leaders to coordinate with relevant agencies to organise the 40th anniversary of the province's liberation, the 81 day campaign to protect the old citadel, and the 65th anniversary of Vietnam's Wounded and Fallen Soldiers' Day.
During his visit to the province, PM Dung offered incense and laid a wreath to commemorate heroic martyrs at Quang Tri Citadel and at Road No9 and Truong Son martyrs’ cemeteries.
On the same day, PM Dung and his entourage also visited Quang Binh province.
