Employee concerns to be timely addressed

(VOV) - Trade unions should timely consider employees’ desires and aspirations to improve their spiritual and material lives, PM Nguyen Tan Dung has said.

Dung made the proposal at a working session with the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) in Hanoi on February 27.

He said in the context of the slow economic recovery, the majority of employees are still facing difficulties and they need more support from trade unions to help them stabilise their lives and devote themselves to production.

Last year the VGCL and its trade unions worked closely with Government agencies, local administrations and businesses to support employees in maintaining production, generating stable incomes, and building harmonious labour relations at work, said Dung.

As a result, the number of labour disputes and strikes fell 44 percent compared to 2011, and democratic regulations were widely exercised within enterprises.

The VGCL effectively implemented joint coordination documents it had already signed with the Vietnam Social Insurer and the Ministry of Construction regarding medical insurance and housing for employees, to ensure their legitimate rights and interests.

Grassroots-level trade unions especially cared for employees living in difficult circumstances and contracting critical illnesses, as well as those social policy beneficiaries.

PM Dung appreciated the effective cooperation between the government and the VGCL, and said the government will improve its management efficiency to help the VGCL fulfil its tasks.

He said in 2013 both sides will continue to work closely to hold trade union congresses at the grassroots level, complete policies relevant to employees, protect employees’ legitimate rights and interests, and popularise related laws.

He proposed that both sides launch joint emulation campaigns, increase information exchanges, and timely address employee concerns.
