Hanoi streets deserted in record hot spell

VOV.VN - Streets, pubs and even some tourist attractions in the capital city of Hanoi are deserted due to the current heat wave which has temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius.

According to the National Meteorological and Hydrological Forecast Centre, the scorching weather will continue to affect the Hanoi area with high temperatures of 37-39 degrees Celsius, exceeding 39 degrees in some areas. During this hot spell, road surfaces have even been reaching 60 degrees Celsius.

Hanoi’s streets were deserted on the morning of July 5. Such a lack of traffic is only usually seen during the first days of the Lunar New Year festival (Tet).

Areas around Hoan Kiem Lake which are usually crowded with locals and visitors are also empty.

There isn’t a soul at Dien Bien Phu-Chu Van An intersection.

The normally busy President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is devoid of its regular bustle of visitors.

The cathedral on Nha Tho Street is deserted.

Ho Tay (West Lake) waterpark is unseasonably quiet.

Nearly no one travel on streets from 11am to 2pm as it is simply too hot.

Even on pavements, there are few people.
