The Fifth National Congress of Vietnamese Catholics Building and Safeguarding the Fatherland closed in Hanoi on November 20.

The congress elected its fifth committee, which comprises 74 catholic priests and four monks, and is headed by Nguyen Cong Danh.

Delegates to the event discussed their major duties in the time to come, such as rallying the catholic community in the patriotic and emulation movements launched by the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front. They set a goal of further promoting its outreach activities to fight distortions of information about Vietnam and help the world better understand the country.

The congress sent a message calling on all Vietnamese Christians to make more contributions to the country in all areas.
