Vietnam, Cuba foster telecoms cooperation

(VOV) -Vietnam is willing to share its experience in opening up the telecom market and drawing up related legislation with Cuba.

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Information and CommunicationsTruong Minh Tuanmade the offer during recent talks in Havana with his counterpart Wilfredo Gonzalez Vidal.

Tuan said Vietnam will also send its leading telecom experts to Cuba to support the two countries’ businesses in expanding cooperation. 

Wilfredo spoke highly of Vietnam’s recent telecom achievements and said its experience is crucial to Cuba’s socio-economic development.

He called on Vietnamese businesses to invest in Cuba’s Mariel special economic development zone in the future.

Both sides compared notes on specific cooperation areas and examined the draft of a Memorandum of Understanding to be signed during the upcoming visit to Vietnam by the Cuban Communications Minister.

While staying in Cuba from February 14-21, the Vietnamese delegation worked with representatives from Cuba’s State-run telecom firm ETECSAto inquire into its operation model and the implementation of a current cooperation agreement with Vietnam’s military-run telecom Viettel.

They also held meetings with Culture Minister Rafael Bernal and President of the Book Institute Zuleica Romay to promote cooperation in the print and publishing sectors.

They paid visits to a number of cultural and economic centresin Havana capital, and Pinar del Rio and Matanzas provinces.
