Japanese company to use pesticide spraying drones in Can Tho

At a working session with the municipal People’s Committee on May 9, General Director of DMM Technologies Takagi Shunji said the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence has allowed the company to implement the service in Vietnam, targeting agricultural cooperatives and major agricultural companies. 

According to Pham Ngoc Phuc, who is in charge of technology of DMM Technologies, it takes farmers 2-3 hours to spray pesticide manually per hectare. The drones can cut the time to 10 minutes, helping farmers save service costs and water resources. 

More importantly, the drones help ease the harmful impacts of pesticide on human health, Phuc said, describing this as contributing to boosting the access of Vietnamese farm produce to the global market. 

Phuc said the drones created similar results as manual methods when tested on rice fields in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap earlier. 

Apart from Dong Thap, DMM Technologies also conducted trial pesticide spraying for sugar cane in the southern province of Tay Ninh and rubber trees in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai.

However, the selling of such devices to Vietnamese farmers has yet to be launched due to local regulations, said Takagi Shunji. 

At the working session, Vice Chairman of the Can Tho People’s Committee Dao Anh Dung urged DMM Technologies to compete procedures to deploy the project in the locality, noting that the city supports the company’s service.
