Bus smart cards will be used on a trial basis for two bus lines – Giap Bat- Nhon and My Dinh – Gia Lam in Hanoi from July 1.

Smart cards have some positive points such as being difficult to fake, convenient to pay for and can be used for up to five years. The cost of the cards is being funded by the EU but they are so expensive to produce so many people doubt the success of the scheme.
