Vietnam, Laos boost security cooperation

(VOV) - A high-level delegation from the Lao Ministry of Public Security, led by Minister Thongban Seng Aphon was welcomed by Minister of Public Security General Tran Dai Quang in Hanoi on February 21.

At talks with his Lao counterpart, Quang expressed the hope that the Lao delegation’s visit will contribute to strengthening the special friendship between the two Parties, States and peoples.

Quang briefed the guest on his ministry’s efforts to ensure the social safety and security during the recent Lunar New Year (Tet) festival, as well as the ministry’s major tasks in the future.

After the signing of a cooperation plan for 2013, the Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security has directed local units and departments to work out plans to properly implement the agreement, he said.

During the talks, the two ministers also reviewed regional and international situation and discussed issues of mutual concern.

They underlined the need to step up cooperation between the two ministries to ensure the national security and social order and safety in both countries, thereby consolidating the time-honoured and everlasting friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

To mark the occasion, the Lao Government awarded the Friendship Order and Freedom Order (Issala) of various classes to Vietnamese public security generals, officials and soldiers, in recognition of their significant contributions to enhancing security and developing the relationship between the two forces and two nations.
