Around 100 local bowlers are competing with their 100 counterparts from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Australia, Taiwan, the Republic of Korea, and the US at the fourth Vietnam Open International Bowling Tournament held at Saigon Superbowl Centre from June 24 to July 8.

Among foreign athletes are famous players including four-time world champion Paeng Nepomucenco from the Philippines, the 2002 Asian Master Bowling Tour gold medalist Purvis Granger from the US, the 2004 Asian Games gold medalist K. N. Lai from Malaysia, and the 2005 SEA Games gold medalist Ryan Lalisang from Indonesia.

Vietnamese hopefuls at the tournament include young male bowler Huynh Ngoc Minh Tri and veteran player Huynh Ngoc Diem Thuy, who established an excellent record in recent international competitions in Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

The 2006 Vietnam International Open Bowling Tourney is co-sponsored by Coca Cola, Amara Hotel, Rinnai, Evian, and Brunswick, with prizes amounting to US$40,000 in total.
