Southern Dong Nai province has exported its first 20 tonnes of durians to Shenzhen City in China’s Guangdong province, according to the provincial Biotechnology Development Company (Dona-Techno) under the National Centre for Natural Society and Technology.

The Dona durian, which is traded at VND20,000 per kilo, is a durian cross bred with Thailand’s famous Mong Thon durian.

Dona-Techno’s director, Nguyen Phu Cuong, said that the company has signed contracts with farmers in Tan Phu district to plant 450ha of Dona durian to help ethnic people and poor farmers in the province’s remote areas.

It has also invested in setting up cold storage facilities capable of handling 300 tonnes of fruit a day in Long Khanh town and three nurseries in Dong Nai, Lam Dong and Dak Lak provinces, he added./.
