If the industrial sector does not realise its set target of achieving an industrial production value of 16 percent in 2006, the sector will face certain difficulties in the years to come, according to Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dzung.

The Deputy PM made the remarks at a meeting with the Ministry of Industry in Hanoi on June 7. He stressed that the industrial sector should resolve shortcomings and map out plans for the next five years.

According to Mr Dzung, over the past five months, the industrial production value only hit 15.9 percent. If the industrial sector does not realise its set target of achieving an industrial production growth rate of 16 percent in 2006, the sector will face certain difficulties in the years to come, thus affecting the national GDP of 8 percent.

The Deputy PM also asked the Industry Ministry to finalise the next five-year plan and submit it to the Government for approval as soon as possible.
