The Vietnamese Consulate General in San Francisco, USA, held a ceremony on August 28 to celebrate Vietnam’s 63rd National Day (September 2).

The ceremony was attended by the consular staff and representatives of the governments of San Francisco and the State of California as well as many Vietnamese people living there.

 

At the event, Consul General Le Quoc Hung stressed the immortality of September 2, which he said has been an inspiration for the Vietnamese nation during its renewal process and international integration.

 

He said Vietnam’s success has increasingly been recognized by the world. The country has maintained a high economic growth rate of 7-8 percent annually and is expanding its economic ties with foreign countries, especially the US.

 

Mr Hung emphasized that the Vietnamese community in California, numbering more than 700,000, has served as a bridge between the two countries and has helped promote the image of a dynamic and friendly Vietnam to the American people.

 

The Consul General reiterated the Vietnamese state’s policy to regard the overseas Vietnamese community as an integral part of the Vietnamese nation.

 

On the occasion of Vietnam’s National Day, the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzeneger, sent a congratulatory message to the Vietnamese Consulate General in San Francisco, expressing his high appreciation of Vietnamese people’s contributions to California.

 

*** On August 29, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong-Macau (China) hosted a meeting for overseas Vietnamese to celebrate National Day (Sept. 2).

 

At the meeting, Consul General Pham Cao Phong highlighted Vietnam’s economic achievements in the first six months of the year despite many difficulties. The country recorded a GDP growth rate of 6.5 percent with foreign investment hitting US$45.3 billion, he said.

 

Mr Phong said trade turnover between Vietnam and Hong Kong reached US$1.6 billion and as many as 40,000 tourists from Hong Kong visited Vietnam in the reviewed period.
