People living on the northern island of Co To will soon be able to watch programmes of the national TV broadcaster, Vietnam Television (VTV), through satellite said Vu Ngoc Than, Vice Chairman of the island district’s People Committee.

Co To islanders in Quang Ninh province will receive assistance to buy and install digital VTC-SD TV receivers under a project worth nearly VND3 billion.

More than 190 poor households will be given free TV devices while the remaining 1,300 households will enjoy an 80 percent discount.

In May 2011, the Quang Ninh People’s Committee provided the island with an FM radio transmitter with a capacity of 300W, and two UHF TV transmitters.
