Vietnam makes headway in Davis Cup climb

(VOV) -Vietnam broke through a long-frustrating wall at the Davis Cup on March 28 and climbed a step closer to the title thanks to outstanding performances by Hoang Thien and Hoang Nam.

At the ongoing tourney in Malaysia, Nguyen Hoang Thien handily defeated Phillip King of Hong Kong 2-0 after 55 minutes of play in the men’s single event, while Ly Hoang Nam emerged victorious over Hei Yin Andrew Li after two grueling hours of competition.

With these two consecutive victories, the Vietnamese players successfully made their way into Group II in the Asia-Pacific region at Davis Cup 2016. They also will be awarded US$10,000 as a bonus from the Vietnam Tennis Federation.

Later in the day, duo Minh Quan and Quang Tri will meet Siu Fai Kelvin Lam and Jack Wong from Hong Kong.

On March 29, Vietnam is scheduled to play in the final of Group III against the winners of the match between Malaysia and Turkmenistan.
