First images of Gepard 3.9 frigate designed for Vietnam Navy

VOV.VN - The third Gepard-3.9-class frigate built for the Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN) has been put afloat at Russia’s Zelenodolsk Gorky Shipyard in Tatarstan.

A representative from Zelenodolsk Gorky Shipyard says Gepard-3.9 will be handed over to Vietnam in 2017.

The frigate will undergo a number of tests before its official operations

Gepard-3.9 is made to fight airborne, underwater and overwater enemy, light objects under and above water, install active and passive obstacles, install mines, escort and guard convoys during conflicts, guard and patrol the state border and economic zones, and for other purposes.

Gepard – 3.9 weighs about 2 thousand tonnes and carries advanced missile-artillery, aircraft, antisubmarine and radioelectronic weapons, as well as mine and counter-terror weapons.
