The Vietnam Natural History Museum, comprised of museums, zoological and botanical gardens, a collection of national samples and an out-door exhibition area, will be built in an area covering Hanoi, Vinh Phuc and Ha Tay provinces through 2010.

An overall plan on building the Vietnamese natural history museum system through 2020 has been approved recently by the Prime Minister, under which the museum will carry out research, collect, preserve, display and disseminate the country's natural value in a full manner.

The museum will be also the flagship of Vietnam's natural history museum system, have the full capacity to give guidance and professional support and effectively co-ordinate activities of the natural museum system nationwide.

Under the plan, in the 2006-2020 period, 11 other projects on construction or upgrade of regional natural museums, professional museums and out-door exhibition areas will be implemented in Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Hai Phong, the northwestern region, central region, Central Highlands region, and southern region.
