National Disabled Sport Festival opens in HCM City

(VOV) -More than 900 athletes from 27 cities and provinces nationwide are gathering in Ho Chi Minh City for the 2012 National Disabled Sports Festival from November 22-25.

They are scheduled to compete in six events, including athletics, weightlifting, swimming, chess, table tennis and badminton.

Young sportsmen of two different age groups are divided into two different groups (ages 14 to 16 and 17 to 20) to select best athletes to join the ASEAN Para Games in Myanmar and the Asian Youth Para Games in Malaysia next year.

Since the first festival of this kind was held in 1998, Vietnam has attended most of regional and international events and always made it to the Top 3 of the ASEAN Para Games.

Some of its athletes, namely swimmers Vo Thanh Tung, Nguyen Thanh Trung, Trinh Thi Bich Nhu and runners Cao Ngoc Hung and Nguyen Thi Hai have set new records at the Asian Para Games.
