According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, seafood exports reached US$380 million in September, bringing the total seafood export turnover for the past 9 months to US$2.7 billion, up nearly 14 percent from a year earlier.

Normally, export turnover in the final quarter picks up thanks to a higher volume of material and higher consumption around the world. As a result, this year’s export turnover of US$3.6 billion is within reach, said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Luong Le Phuong.

Seafood prices in the world market, especially in the large consumer markets such as the US, the EU, China and the Republic of Korea tend to increase at the end of the year thanks to a higher demand from consumers before and during Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Director of the Kien Giang Seafood Enterprise Huynh Van Ganh, said his company has exported US$62 million worth of seafood and is striving to fulfill its set export target of US$100 million.

Over the past nine months, southern Ben Tre province earned US$38 million in seafood exports and is projected to export US$22 million in the remaining months of this year.

General Secretary of the Ca Mau Seafood Processing and Export Association Le Van Thuan said that Ca Mau is expecting to fetch between US$200-210 million in export turnover in the final quarter of this year, helping to reach the country’s seafood export target ahead of schedule.
