Japanese contemporary artworks on display in HCM City

A Japanese contemporary artworks exhibition is being held by the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association and Green Space Gallery at the HCM City Fine Arts Museum.

The exhibition, entitled “10 in HCM City”, features 54 abstract works by 10 Japanese artists: Reiko Homma, Nobutoshi Matsuura, Yoko Nakamura, Aki Miwa, Yoshiya Ohara, Yoko Shimizu, Naoko Kobayashi, Susumu Ohira, Ryoichi Hiratsuka and Naoki Yamada, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

The artworks come in many different genres and styles, from oil painting to installation. Through their distinctive perspectives, the artists didn’t draw what they saw but what they felt about contemporary issues like climate changes and environmental pollution.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Huynh Van Muoi, President of the HCM City Fine Arts Association, said the exhibition is part of activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Japan.

It contributes to tightening the long-standing friendship and cultural exchange between the two countries.

According to Muoi, the artworks exhibited are a combination of Japan’s modern life and preservation of traditional culture and history.

Through the exhibition, Vietnamese viewers and artists can learn about the innovative fine arts of Japanese contemporary painters, thus enriching domestic arts and culture.

Painter Aki Miwa, whose works are on display at the exhibition, said that similar exhibitions will be organized in the coming time to promote bilateral friendship and solidarity.

“10 in HCM City” lasts until July 21, 2018.
