Cambodia's Senate President Chea Sim, Prime Minister Hun Sen and National Assembly President Heng Samrin welcomed Nguyen Van Son, special envoy of Nong Duc Manh, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, in Phnom Penh on June 14.

Son, who is a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and head of its Commission for External Relations, is on a visit to Cambodia to present the results of the CPV's recent 10th Congress.
Senate President Chea Sim is President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), PM Hun Sen is its Vice President, and NA President Heng Samrin is its honorary President.

Speaking on the results of the 10th CPV Congress, Mr Son stressed that it was a congress of intelligence, unity, renovation and sustainable development, reflecting the will and aspiration of the Party and the entire nation, ushering in a new stage in construction and defence of a socialist Vietnam.

He said in the spirit of the Congress Resolution, the Vietnamese Party, State and people will maintain its foreign policy of placing importance upon the traditional neighbourliness, friendship and co-operation between Vietnam and Cambodia, continuing to join hands with the Cambodian side to lift the relationship to a new height.

Mr Son said that Vietnam highly values the great achievements made by the Cambodian people under the reign of King Norodom Sihamoni and the leadership of the Cambodian Royal coalition government.

The Cambodian leaders congratulated Vietnam on the success of the CPV's 10th congress and the country's great achievements in the Renewal process. They also congratulated Nong Duc Manh on his re-election as CPV General Secretary.

They expressed their pleasure at the fine development of the friendly, co-operative, neighbourly relations between Cambodia and Vietnam. They said that the Cambodian side would continue to do its utmost to bring the Cambodia-Vietnam relationship to a new height following the motto of good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive sustainable and long-term co-operation, which was agreed upon by leaders of the two sides.

During the visit, the special envoy also held talks with a number of other CPP senior officials, including members of the standing board of the CPP Central Committee and members of the CPP Central Committee. Mr Son informed the Cambodian side of the new and important policies that the CPV adopted at the 10th congress. The two sides discussed measures to implement agreements between the two parties.

Mr Son also met with Nhiek Bun Chhay, Secretary General of the National United Front for Co-operative, Independent, Neutral and Peaceful Cambodia (FUNCINPEC) and other FUNCINPEC leaders to inform them of the success of the CPV's 10th congress. The two sides exchanged views on measures to further boost the traditional Vietnam-Cambodia friendship, co-operation and neighbourliness.
