The Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) held a press conference in Hanoi on June 6 to announce the proceedings of Vietnamese Agent Orange victims, which will take place in the US on June 18.

The press conference attracted Len Aldis, secretary of the Vietnam-UK Friendship Association and a lot of domestic and foreign reporters from Japan and the US.

Dr Tran Xuan Thu, VAVA vice president and general secretary said on June 9 he will lead a Vietnamese delegation to attend the proceedings. The delegation will include four Agent Orange victims who are Nguyen Thi Hong from southern Dong Nai province, Nguyen Van Qui from northern Hai Phong port city, Vo Thanh Hai from central Thua Thien-Hue province and Nguyen Muoi from the former imperial city of Hue. Among them, Qui was one of the first Vietnamese AO victims who lodged the suit against US chemical companies.

Vietnamese lawyer Le Duc Tiet, a member of the delegation, said the proceedings will consider the rulings by the Court of First Instance and will draw conclusions regarding the appeal by the Vietnamese plaintiffs. Vietnam has made thorough preparations to prove that the conclusions made by the Court of First Instance were not correct and will ask the court to make a fair judgment.

On the occasion, the VAVA called upon international friends to take strong action and demand that the US court come to a right decision by holding US chemical companies responsible for compensating Vietnamese AO victims. Justice must be done for AO victims in Vietnam as well as other countries in the world, including those in the US.
