PM calls for traffic safety during holiday season

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has called for traffic congestion to be eased during the holiday season between the end of December and March 15.

He instructed ministries, agencies, and the National Committee for Traffic Safety to increase activities designed to raise awareness about traffic laws.

There must be more inspections and heavier punishments for traffic violators, especially those carrying passengers and containers, and the Public Security Ministry must ensure it has the resources to implement such punishments, the PM said.

Dung added that resources must also be mobilised to meet the increased travel demands of citizens during the holiday season, especially on the north-south route, and transport signals must be double-checked, especially in dangerous mountainous areas.

Authorities must make sure that transport construction sites do not block the flow of traffic.
