Two Chinese naval ships left Sanya port in China’s Hainan province to begin the eight joint Sino-Vietnam patrol in the Gulf of Tonkin and visit Vietnam’s Haiphong port.

The visit is part of a programme to strengthen the friendship between the two countries’ militaries.

This is also Chinese naval ships’ first visit to Vietnam since the two countries began conducting joint patrols in the Gulf of Tonkin.
