A delegation of 18 Italian food and beverage businesses visited Ho Chi Minh City on November 23 to seek investment opportunities in this potential market.

The visit was in the framework of the Sapori D’Italia (Italian flavour) programme organised by the Italian Trade Commission and the Federation of Italian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

During the visit, Italian businesses met with Vietnamese trade partners to exchange information and set up relations with local importers and distributors in the field of food and beverage.

Marco Saladini, Italian trade commissioner in Vietnam, said that Vietnam, with a population of over 86 million, is emerging as a potential market for Italia’s famous consumer goods sector. A series of Italian products are on sale in Vietnam, and Italian firms are striving to offer lower prices for local consumers, he added.

In 2008, Italia earned US$8.8 million Euro from exporting its food and beverage products to Vietnam, including 850.000 Euro from wine and 570.000 Euro from noodles.
