The 2010 Vietnam Badminton Championships -Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open, which is the biggest international sporting event in the country, will be held in Ho Chi Minh City from October 5-10.

274 players from 20 countries and territories including China, India, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Hongkong, Taiwan, South Africa, Austria, the US and Wales will take part.

In the men’s singles the host country’s World No.9, Nguyen Tien Minh, is expected to win, but he will face big challenges from Indonesia’s World No. 35 Andre Kurniawan, Taiwan’s World No. 42 Hsuan Yi Hsueh and India’s World No. 44 Gurusai Datt.

In the women’s singles Vu Nhu Trang is Vietnam’s best hope for a medal as she came third in the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. Trang will compete with Taiwan’s World No.29 Tai Tzu Ying and World No. 32 Cheng Shao Chien for the title.
