Vietnam insists on dialogue and cooperation on world arena

(VOV) -The UN Human Rights Council convened in Geneva over the last two days to discuss human rights situations in a number of regions and approse 32 draft resolutions, decisions, and president statement. 

Ambassador and head of the Vietnamese mission to the UN Nguyen Trung Thanh said as a member of the UN Human Rights Council Vietnam insists on cooperation and respect to international law and the UN Charter to achieve peace, prosperity, and lasting social harmony. 


The Vietnamese delegation contributed a number of important contents in the draft resolutions. It abstained from voting on a draft resolution on Syria.

During its two years as ASEAN Coordinator at the UN Human Rights Council, Vietnam has contributed significantly to raising the image of ASEAN at the UN’s biggest human rights forum.

The HCR’s 30th session passed 21 out of 32 draft resolutions which concentrated on issues of great concerns in the field of human right protection and promotion, such as national policy and human right, regional cooperation institutions and human rights, improving the efficiency of HRC’s operation, pandemic prevention and human right, and international cooperation in ensuring rights of vulnerable groups.

HRC also approved by voting 11 resolutions on contentious issues, including those on Syria. The 30 th session marked two thirds of Vietnam’s three-year tenure as an official member of the HRC.

It also marked the country's two consecutive years working as ASEAN Coordinator in the HRC as a contribution to promoting image and role of the bloc in the UN’s largest forum on human right.
