Canada has become the most attractive high-potential market for Vietnam’s tuna exporters, says the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Due to recent impact of the global economic recession, Vietnamese exporters have continuously changed their markets. With its tuna imports rising 100 percent in volume over last year, Canada has become one of the main importers of Vietnam’s tuna after the US, the EU, Japan and Israel.

In September, Vietnam’s tuna exports to Canada and Switzerland enjoyed positive growth in both volume and value.

Exports to the US, the EU and Japan hit snags because of trade barriers and fierce competitiveness in the international markets.

To explore more potential markets, companies should study consumer taste and improve the quality of tuna products.

Major tuna exporters include Ha Long Seafood, Foodtech, Havuco, Seaspimes, Alphasea, and Highland Dragon.
