A list of 493 qualified deputies representing the interests of Vietnamese people at the 12th National Assembly – the highest legislative body of Vietnam has been announced.

A press conference was held in Hanoi on May 29 with general secretary of the Election Council, Bui Ngoc Thanh in the chair to announce the results of the 12th National Assembly election.


The election council affirmed that the 12th NA election had been held successfully across the country with 59 provinces and cities recording high turnouts of 99 percent. Votes were counted and gathered in a lawful manner.


According to the election council, over 99.64 percent of voters cast their ballots, of which valid votes accounted for more than 99 percent and invalid votes barely 0.80 percent. Among 493 deputies, the oldest deputy is 80, the youngest is 24, and 345 deputies were elected for the first time.


Of the total, 34 percent hold post-graduate degrees, 63 percent hold bachelor degrees, 87 are representative of ethnic minority groups, 127 women, 43 non-Party members, 68 youths, one self nominated and 138 re-elected.
