Lego factory expected to begin production this year
VOV.VN - Lego Manufacturing Vietnam said its US$1.3-billion plant in the southern province of Binh Duong will start production this year.
This information was unveiled at a meeting between Vo Van Minh, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, and Preben Elnef, vice president of the Lego Group and general manager of LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam, on January 9.
Enef shared that the Lego project represents an important milestone marking the transition from planning to production as the group has decided to send Jesper Hassellund Mikkelsen, senior vice president of the LEGO Group, to Vietnam to work and manage the project.
He added that Lego Group has co-operated with partners to ensure the 110KV power grid and deploy solar power for production, with the ultimate aim of underpinning the target of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
This is not only a commitment to efficient production, but also a positive contribution to the environment, Enef stressed.
In his role, Van Minh expressed great appreciation for the progress of project implementation, assuring the province will commit to supporting and tackling all difficulties for the group to achieve strong business results.
Once completed this year, the Lego factory is expected to generate thousands of jobs for skilled workers, further contributing to Binh Duong’s economic development over the coming years.
The factory is designed to cover 44 hectares of land and is one of the largest FDI projects in the province. It is also the largest Danish-invested project nationwide.
The Binh Duong factory is Lego’s first carbon-neutral facility, making use of electricity from the rooftop solar cell panels and the nearby solar farm.
Lego opened its first Asian plant in China in 2016, and its products are sold in more than 130 markets.
