The Health Ministry has presented the insignia “For People’s Health” to four members of the Germany-Vietnam Medical Support Association (DEVIEMED) in recognition of their contributions to Vietnam’s healthcare service.
The recipients were Professors Christian Michel and Erich Theo Merholz, co-founders of DEVIEMED; Associate Prof. Anke Loette, Vice President of DEVIEMED; and Associate Prof. Ton That Hua, coordinator of DEVIEMED cooperation programme.
Since 1999, DEVIEMED has joined surgeons of the Hue Central Hospital in performing free surgery on 995 children suffering from harelip and clef palate. The organisation has also provided medicines to these children worth a total of VND841 million, besides organising seminars on odonto-stomatology, anaesthetisation, and obstetrics for local medical workers.
