Peace – the everlasting value of humankind

(VOV) - Since the Vietnamese state was first established several thousand years ago, it has resisted numerous foreign invasions, and the simple fact is that no matter how powerful and cruel, they were all vanquished and expulsed.

History shows that the Vietnamese nation is friendly and humane. Despite victory, it still provided war prisoners with necessary supplies. It attached importance to reconciliation and friendship to break with the past and open up a new chapter for cooperation and development, for the sake of people’s well-being and national prosperity.

History also reveals that Vietnam neither invaded nor caused aggression, conflict and hatred with other nations. By contrast, it was separated and severely devastated by many aggressive wars, resulting in huge human and property losses. Therefore, whenever Vietnamese people regain national independence, they respect and seek to maintain it.

The Vietnamese nation aspires to peace. Many eminent Vietnamese figures such as Ly Thuong Kiet, Tran Hung Dao, Nguyen Trai, Quang Trung, Ho Chi Minh, and Vo Nguyen Giap devoted their time, energy and wisdom to seeking and bringing about lasting peace for the nation.

Elsewhere in the world, many nations experienced centuries of wars and they have finally learned how to live together in peace and harmony, using a single currency and a single language. Some countries are carrying out space and natural exploration programmes to turn endless energy supplies, sunlight and sea surges for instance, into clean energy to serve people.

Instead of provoking territorial disputes and stirring up hatred, nations have teamed up to address global life-threatening issues like hunger, poverty, epidemics, the environment, and natural disasters.

What is currently happening in the East Sea apparently indicates that any unilateral intent to wrest control of the regional waters will eventually ruin peace - the most valuable thing that humankind, including Vietnamese people, have gone to great lengths to forge.

All in all, peace is the truth, principle and right of all nations and those who cherish peace from around the globe.
