Vietnamese catfish fillets, dragon fruit introduced in Pakistan

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Embassy in Pakistan and the Vietnamese Trade Office in the country recently hosted a trade promotion event to introduce Vietnamese basa fish fillets and dragon fruit to local people.

The event, part of a ceremony to celebrate the 77th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day, was held to realise the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s directive aiming to promote exports, expand consumption markets, and seek outlets for Vietnamese agricultural products.

Most notably, Vietnamese basa fish fillets have been granted food safety certificates by international organisations such as Germany’s Global Good Agricultural Practice (Global GAP), the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) of the Netherland and the UK, as well as the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) of the United States.

Despite facing fierce competition from regional peers, Vietnamese basa fish fillets have successfully penetrated the Pakistani market thanks to their high quality, delicious taste, and competitive prices for consumers.

The products have been exported to some of the most demanding markets globally such as the US, the EU, and the UK.

Meanwhile, dragon fruit from the southcentral province of Binh Thuan have also been sold in Pakistani supermarkets since 2021. However, the retail price remains high as the fruit is imported in small quantities from Dubai via air.

At the event, representatives from the Vietnamese Embassy in Pakistan and the Vietnamese Trade Office focused on introducing the nutritional value of the fruit, along with its delicious taste, to Pakistani consumers as part of efforts to further win consumer’s trust in this market.
