Luxembourg has pledged 10.9 million euros in support of Vietnam’s development projects within the framework of a cooperation programme between the two countries during the 2006-2010 period.

A protocol underscoring this cooperation was signed in Luxembourgville on June 23 between Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium, Phan Thuy Thanh, and Belgian Minister of Cooperation and Humanitarian Activities, Jean-Louis Schinltz.

The aid package will be devoted to a rural development project in Quang Dien district of central Thua Thien-Hue province, a project relating to the national extended vaccination programme and a project better national management of a blood preservation system.

Addressing the singing ceremony, Minister Schinltz spoke highly of recent socio-economic achievements made by Vietnam with assistance from Luxembourg. The minister said that cooperative projects between the two countries have been implemented effectively for the benefit of local people.

He affirmed that this cooperation would continue to develop in other areas, particularly in banking and telecommunications in the near future.
