Vietnam and UK promote tertiary education cooperation
VOV.VN - A delegation of the Ministry of Education and Training led by Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son paid a working trip to the United Kingdom from November 20-23 to promote education cooperation between the two countries.
The delegation attended the Going Global 2023 conference and the inauguration of the transnational education strategy of the British Council in Edinburgh on November 20. Son shared the connection and compatibility of the British Council’s transnational education strategy with Vietnam’s education development strategy, and examined the possibility of expanding Vietnam’s transnational education, as well as new challenges and opportunities in this field.
While attending the Vietnam – UK forum of university presidents in Edinburgh with the participation of leaders of 23 British universities, Son affirmed that higher education institutions of both Vietnam and the UK are increasingly strengthening cooperation in training, teaching, research and academic exchanges.
The Deputy Minister highly appreciated the UK’s support, through the British Council, in deploying activities to improve the quality of higher education in Vietnam, and in fostering higher education cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of innovation, digital transformation, energy transformation, as well as in developing high-quality human resources, and improving the quality of English teaching and learning in the Vietnamese education system.
The delegation also met with leaders of the UK Department for Education, UK Department for International Trade and British Council in Edinburgh on November 22. The two sides discussed measures to boost bilateral education cooperation, especially the UK support for Vietnam in digital transformation, artificial intelligence development, semiconductor technology, green energy, and emission reduction.
They also discussed the possibility of increasing the UK support for Vietnamese higher education institutions to access the British International Partnerships Fund (ISPF), the Turing Scheme that supports student exchanges between the two countries, and the Taith Wales that supports joint cooperation training and exchange of lecturers between higher education institutions, and the opening of branches of high-ranking British universities in Vietnam.
During their stay, the delegation also called at Imperial College London, University of Cambridge, University of St Andrews, and Glasgow Caledonian University to learn about their education-training models and examine the possibility of cooperation with Vietnamese universities.
Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology of Vietnam and ARM Ltd, the UK’s leading corporation that builds and develops microprocessor cores and processor technology.
