The plan will encompass the entire city, which was recently expanded to include more than 3,300km2 and about 6 million inhabitants (2008 statistics). It aims to develop water supplies in a sustainable manner and optimize resources to create sufficient clean water for the city’s socio-economic development.
The plan will require rational and economical usage of water sources and will encourage all economic sectors to invest in the water supply.
Under the plan, research will be conducted into water sources, water quality and reserves, water works, and current water usage.
Ongoing water projects in the city will be reviewed.
The Prime Minister has also asked for projections of water demand in urban areas, industrial parks, and rural areas.
The planning is expected to take about nine months to complete.
