Marking Russia’s National Day

(VOV) - The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association (VRFA) worked together to host a June 7 ceremony marking Russia’s National Day (June 12). 

Addressing the ceremony, VRFA HCM City President Nguyen Huu Thanh, acknowledged the proud, 60-year history of cooperation and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia, He highlighted HCM City’s dynamic relations with a number of Russian localities.    

Both nations have implemented agreements and cooperated on projects spanning fields including energy, military, and training.

The construction of Vietnam’s first nuclear power plant is vivid proof. Russia and Vietnam hope to push two-way trade turnover beyond US$10 billion by 2020.

Russian Consul General in HCM City A. V. Borovik expressed confidence in the Russian-Vietnamese friendship’s bright future.

Building on their strategic partnership will benefit both nations and contribute to the prosperity and stability of the Asia-Pacific region.

Mr Borovik noted the energy and oil and gas industries have played a key role in bilateral cooperation between the two nations, referencing the first atomic power plant in Ninh Thuan Province and the establishment of the Vietsovpetro joint venture.

Cultural and tourism exchanges have also played an important role in the Vietnam-Russia relationship.

Direct cooperation between HCM City’s universities and tertiary institutions in Russia were recently consolidated.
