Delegations from the Buddhist Church of Vietnam (BCV) and the Archbishop’s Office of Hanoi have paid visits to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) on the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year festival.

Venerable Thich Thanh Tu, Vice Head of the Managing Council of the BCV, said in his meeting with VFF Chairman Huynh Dam on January 15 that the Church has received great assistance from the Front and he will encourage Buddhist followers to join movements launched by the Front.

Venerable Thich Thanh Tu expressed his wish that the VFF would always be a common house for the grand family of Vietnamese ethnic communities. He also wished the VFF a happy Lunar New Year.

For his part, Chairman Huynh Dam thanked Venerable Thich Thanh Tu for his wishes and affirmed the important role of the BCV in uniting the whole nation. Mr Dam said its successful hosting of the 2008 Vesak Grand Festival helped enhance Vietnam’s status in the international arena.

The VFF leader expressed his hope that the BCV would build on its status to further contribute to national unity and help achieve the target of a prosperous people, a strong country, and an equitable, democratic and civilized society.

On the same day, Mr Huynh Dam warmly received a delegation from the Archbishop’s Office of Hanoi, headed by Bishop Chu Van Minh, who thanked the VFF for its attention and assistance in the past year.

“The front has always well played its role as a bridge between the Party, the State and people, especially parishioners,” the bishop affirmed.

Meanwhile, VFF Chairman Huynh Dam said the fine ties between the VFF and the Archbishop’s Office of Hanoi are the very embodiment of Great National Unity. He hoped the Office would build on their sense of national unity and stand by the Vietnam Fatherland Front in building a strong, wealthy and civilized Vietnam.
