Vietnamese movie set for screening in USA, Europe

VOV.VN - The popular Vietnamese movie "Mai" will be screened in several foreign markets from March 22, including the United States, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Slovakia, according to local film producer-director Tran Thanh.

The movie, both directed and produced by Tran Thanh, will be introduced to international audience at more than 100 foreign theaters, confirmed the director.

“Mai” was released to the local audience during the 2024 Lunar New Year festival and has gone on to continuously set records in terms of ticket sales, thereby becoming highest-grossing movie in the Vietnamese cinema history.

It passed “Nha Ba Nu” (Mrs. Nu’s Family), a movie also directed by Tran Thanh in 2023, with revenue of VND540.7 billion, just over US$22 million, after one month of release.

"Mai" is Tran Thanh’s first movie labeled 18+, and it cost nearly VND50 billion to make.

The movie revolves around the life of a massage therapist named Mai and her love with a young musician named Duong.

Conflict then ensues as Mai’s low self-esteem does not allow her to accept the feelings of a man who is seven years younger than her.
