Indonesia’s airline Lion Air has resumed services to Ho Chi Minh City after a three-year suspension of its low-fare flights in Vietnam.
The carrier’s maiden flight bound to HCM City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport at 11:20am on April 18 will take four hours and a half from Soekarno Airport in Jakarta.

Chandran Rama Muthy, senior manager for sales and marketing of the carrier, said Lion Air’s passengers are mainly tourists and students and people visiting relatives.

“Lion Air is the first airline in the world to fly the brand new Boeing 737-900ER, new safe and comfortable aircraft,” he said.

The airline will initially offer all economy class seats, but later will arrange 10 business class seats and 195 economy class seats.

Chandran said Lion Air is a hybrid carrier rather than a low-cost airline, meaning it lies somewhere between a low-cost and full serviced airline.
