Traffic accidents fall in H1 of 2023

VOV.VN - As many as 4,970 traffic accidents occurred nationwide, claiming 2,865 lives and injuring 3,471 others during the first six months of the year.

According to the National Committee for Traffic Safety, the number of accidents, fatalities, and injuries dropped by 762 cases, 484 deaths, and 214 injuries, respectively, compared to the same period from last year.

On national roads, 4,906 accidents claimed 2,821 lives and left 3,458 others injured, representing respective decreases of 13.41%, 13.84%, and 5.8%.

Meanwhile, 48 railway accidents killed 34 people and injured 13 others, representing year-on-year rises of 14.29%, 13.33%, and 18.18%, respectively.

A total of 12 accidents happened on waterways, down eight cases, and four accidents occurred on marine routes, taking two lives.

In the first half of the year the traffic police handled more than 1.6 million cases of traffic violations nationwide, with a total administrative fine of over VND3 trillion. These figures mark increases of 22.2% and 98.9%, respectively compared to the same period from 2022.

Moreover, up to 373,931 cases of drink driving were fined throughout the reviewed period, accounting for 22.6% of total violations.
