Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung lauded the United Nations’ contributions to Vietnam’s socio-economic development and expressed his wish to continue to work closely alongside its organisations to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

The deputy PM made this statement in Hanoi on October 24 while meeting with representatives from UN organisations on the 63 rd anniversary of the founding of the group.

The Vietnamese Government is further boosting the implementation of policies regarding poverty reduction and rural development, with a particular focus on bringing industry and services to rural areas and generating jobs for farmers, Mr Hung said.

The UN’s Resident Coordinator in Vietnam John Hendra spoke highly of Vietnam’s socio-economic development, the country’s success in reducing poverty and ensuring social welfare as well as its marked progress in food production.

The UN believes that the Vietnamese Government will be successful in curbing inflation, stabilising the macro economy and ensuring social welfare, Hendra said.
