The northern port city of Hai Phong will launch tourism campaigns on Do Son beach and Cat Ba islands in late March and early April.

171,400 out of the 656,000 holidaymakers in the city in the first quarter of this year were foreigners, representing a year-on-year increase of 22.8 percent. Most of them came from China, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, France, the US, Germany, Britain and Japan.

The provincial tourism revenues rose 31.8 percent to almost VND1 trillion.

The recent inauguration of an international air route between Hong Kong-Macau and Hai Phong is one of the reasons for the surge in foreign arrivals. Boeing 767s carry some 160 passengers from China and other countries to the city daily, making a considerable contribution to the huge revenues of the municipal casino.
