Vietnamese athlete banned from int’l competitions over doping violations

VOV.VN - Tran Ha Vi, Asian gold medalist of the Vietnamese aerobic team, has been banned from international competitions for two years due to her doping violations.

In its announcement on March 6, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) confirmed that the Vietnamese aerobic athlete tested positive for banned substances.

Her test samples were collected by FIG on September 16, 2023, when Ha Vi competed at the 2023 Asian Aerobic Championship in Mongolia.

Vi earned a gold out of three gold medals for Vietnam at the competition.

The ban lasts for two years, from September 16, 2023 to November 25, 2025.

The Vietnam Gymnastics Federation (VFG) has requested Vi to make a report on the case. The girl said she had suffered a urinary tract infection and arbitrarily taken medication before the tournament without notifying the coaching board.

Vi, 22, clinched a silver medal at the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) held in Vietnam in 2021, and a gold medal at the following SEA Games in Cambodia in 2023.
