Greater efforts needed to stabilize macroeconomy amid global complications

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, in his closing speech at the sixth plenum of the Party Central Committee in Hanoi on October 9, asked for greater efforts to be made to maintain the national macroeconomic stability in the context of global unpredictable complications.

The world economy in particular and the international situation in general will still have many complicated and unpredictable developments in the coming months, requiring Vietnam to highly stay vigilant, and more effectively control the COVID-19 pandemic and emerging infectious diseases, he said.

In his opinion, more efforts are needed to maintain macroeconomic stability, control inflation, and ensure major balances of the economy. It is necessary to accelerate economic restructuring, renovate the growth model, increase the resilience and adaptability of the economy, and create new growth drivers in the medium and long term.

The Party leader also stressed the need to accelerate administrative reform, improve the quality of law-making, ramp up infrastructure construction, especially for important national projects, enhance the quality of human resources, promote the application and development of science and technology, digital transformation, green transformation, and innovation.

It’s imperative to strictly manage and effectively use land and other natural resources, protect the environment, actively respond to climate change, he said, adding concerted efforts are needed to step up the fight against corruption, negativity and wastefulness.

According to the Party leader, digital transformation is a new breakthrough method to help cut short the process of national industrialization and modernization. He called for a quick shift from outsourcing and assembly to design and manufacturing in Vietnam, taking into account the fact that Vietnam is gradually making good use of global sci-tech advances and it is in the period of ‘golden population’.

Industrialization and modernization must be carried out on the back of internal and external resources, of which the domestic resources play a basic, strategic, long-term and decisive role while the external resources are described as important and breakthrough. He once again reminded that domestic enterprises serve as the main driving force of the economy while foreign-invested enterprises play an important role.

During the week-long sitting, key Party officials gave opinions on national socio-economic development and state budget plan implementation in 2022, and tasks for 2023, orientations of the national master plan for the 2021 – 2030 period with a vision to 2050.

They also discussed solutions to promote national industrialization and modernization until 2030 with a vision to 2045, and build and perfect the socialist law-governed state in the new period.

The Party Central Committee unanimously approved the release of a resolution on continuing to build and perfect the socialist law-governed state of Vietnam in the new period.

They reviewed 15 years of implementing the Resolution of the 10th Party Central Committee regarding renovating the Party’s leadership in the operation of the political system.

The Party Central Committee agreed to discipline several high-ranking officials for their serious violations of Party guidelines and State policies. They underscored the importance of enhancing the Party building and rectification campaign, and highly agreed to promulgate a new resolution on continuing to renovate the Party’s leadership method in the new situation.
