Vietnam athletes depart for SEA Games

(VOV) -On June 2, a contingent of the national team that will represent Vietnam in Singapore at the 28th SEA Games, May 29-June 16, departed from Noi Bai International Airport.

The contingent included 60 officials, coaches and athletes on the Wushu, swimming, Judo and gymnastics teams.

Speaking at a send off ceremony, Tran Duc Phan, deputy director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, affirmed the coaches and athletes are geared up for the competition.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST), Vietnam will send a total of 420 athletes to compete in 28 out of the 36 sporting events at the games.

*** In the men's double's semi-finals of the table tennis event on June 2, Vietnam's Tran Tuan Quynh and Nguyen Anh Tu were trounced by strong Singaporean rivals Gao Ning and Li Hu.

The competition ended with scores of 11-1, 11-7, 11-6, and 11-2.

With a lacklustre performance, Vietnam’s table tennis team only earned a bronze medal at the tourney.
