Vietnam makes up 15% of total online shopping market in SEA

VOV.VN - Vietnam is the leading nation in Southeast Asia in terms of cross-border online shopping, with each person recording an average of up to 104 orders per year.

This information was announced in a recent report released by Singapore-based logistics company Ninja Van Group and Europe's largest parcel delivery network DPDgroup.

According to the report, Vietnam currently accounts for 15% of the total online shopping market in the region, just behind Thailand with 16% and level with the Philippines.

Vietnamese people remain keen on doing their shopping online and are leading the region in several indicators. Specifically, 73% of local respondents stated that they were regularly shopping on e-commerce platforms, with 59% ordering or shopping many times on international websites.

Global business data Statista outlined that more than 51 million Vietnamese people have so far this year shopped online, an annual increase of 13.5%, whilst total spending on online shopping reached US$12.42 billion.

According to the e-Conomy SEA 2019 report conducted by Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company, the digital Vietnamese economy is likely to reach US$52 billion in value by 2025.
