RoK is important, long-term strategic partner for Vietnam, says Party official
VOV.VN - Vietnam always considers the Republic of Korea (RoK) an important and long-term strategic partner, said Tran Tuan Anh, head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission, during his reception for RoK Ambassador to Vietnam Choi Youngsam.
Anh expressed his elation at the positive development of Vietnam – RoK relations in recent times, especially after the two countries lifted their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in late 2022.
The RoK is the largest foreign investor, the second largest ODA donor and the third largest trading partner for Vietnam, he noted.
Anh highlighted the great potential for cooperation between the two countries, and proposed that the two countries effectively implement the Vietnam-Korea Free Trade Agreement (VKFTA), and strengthen cooperation and mutual support within the multilateral framework.
He also proposed that the RoK support Vietnam especially in fields such as science - technology, semiconductors, innovation, green economy, digital economy, digital transformation, clean energy, smart cities, ecological cities, high-tech agriculture, marine economic development, supply chain connection, along with building Korean research and development centers in Vietnam.
He also stressed the need to increase forestry cooperation associated with forest protection, especially the development of medicinal plants and the pharmaceutical industry.
Ambassador Choi for his part vowed to try his best to promote relations between the RoK and Vietnam effectively and substantially.
