Hanoians make final preparations ahead of Han Thuc Festival

VOV.VN - Residents of Hanoi are putting the final touches on making "banh troi" and "banh chay", white sticky rice balls, which will be offered to the ancestors to mark occasion of the Han Thuc, Cold Food, Festival which falls on April 14, or the third day of the third lunar month.
These days sees traditional markets busy due to the approach of the Han Thuc Festival.
It is normal for Hanoians to make "banh troi" and "banh chay" to worship their ancestors at this time of year.
In wet markets such as Nhon, Xanh, and Nghia Tan, traders often sell ingredients which are necessary to make specialties during the Han Thuc Festival.
Glutinous rice flour and brown sugar are an indispensable part of creating "banh troi".
These cakes can be made colourful by using pineapple leaves, and Gac, also known by their scientific name of momordica cochinchinensis.

These delicious sticky rice balls prove highly tempting for passers-by.
Worshippers can save plenty of time by simply purchasing the offerings in traditional markets.
Markets are now bustling with trade as there is just one day to go before the Han Thuc Festival.
After boiling, "banh troi" and "banh chay" are then placed on the altar and serve as special offerings to the ancestors on the occasion of the Han Thuc Festival.
